Lincoln Fabrics

I have been shopping at Lincoln Fabrics in Venice, California for over 20 years. Every home I've lived in since I first discovered this store has had curtains made from fabric purchased at Lincoln Fabrics. It is one of those big cavernous places, sort of messy, full of hidden treasures, staffed by hip but sulky design students. It has been in business since 1948. It was always an adventure to shop there.
Just last week I went on a long awaited visit and noticed that it just didn't seem the same...
The windows looked a little off.
The shelves were abnormally messy.
Oh No! Lincoln Fabrics is Closing at the end of this month!
I only had a few bucks in my pocket but I had to get to work. This would be my last chance.
This photo is blurry because I was getting dizzy with excitement!
I got completely lost in the novelty print section.
Here is my final purchase:
I could not resist this cowboy fabric.
So that's the end of Lincoln Fabrics. Even this unicorn on display couldn't save it.

Good bye Old Friend. Thanks for Everything. I will miss you.

  1. That's so sad Connie. The fabrics are really unique in design. I hope you will be able to stock some of those fabrics.

    1. It's not really a big deal for me. I just feel sad for the family that owns the store. There are fewer & fewer individually owned businesses around here these days.

  2. Well now I am a little sad, I love individual family-run firms and it's such a shame when they go out of business.
Those novelty prints are fantastic, the 1950s housewives are my favourite.
What are you going to make with the fabric you bought? xxx

    1. I'm making a goofy little dress with the plaid. The rest... I don't know...

  3. Oh no....when you first mentioned your find...i was all set to jot down the name...I so love finding great fabric stores...and the endless possibilities that exist within. When I was in high school my parents owned just such an establishment. Sorry I missed this one!

  4. Oh no! That's awful! Your fabric choices are wonderful, though!

  5. How sad! that looked like the shop of my dreams! I love what you found and am dying to see what you create! x
