It Must Be Something In The Water

The Chatham Hos

It is no secret that I Love the Ballet.
However, I am a pretty crummy ballet dancer.
I've studied dance long enough to fully understand how astoundingly difficult ballet is.
This time of year I like to profile a performance of the Nutcracker, most especially "The Dance of the Snowflakes" since it is one my favorites.
However, when my Mom sent me this video (she has mad computer skills for someone in her 80's!)
I just knew that I had to deviate from tradition and post this video of "Swan Lake" instead.
Even if you are not a fan of ballet, this video is totally worth it.
It may seem dull at first but hang in there.

So go grab another egg nog, plunk your bottom down and enjoy
The Great Chinese State Circus performance of Swan Lake.

  2. Ballerina's are tough, definitely - I sat there transfixed watching the video, and called Littlest and Mr F to see too, I can't think of any words good enough to describe how brilliant it was, the Prima Ballerina en pointe on his shoulder! I'm chuffed your Mum sent it too you and you showed it to us - utterly brilliant x x x

  4. Now I understand your title. You are funny Connie, wow, that is so flexible. Those movements are more for acrobatics I think. Or is she truly a human being?

  6. Good lord, that is extraordinary! I am in awe of what some people can do with their bodies. I have poor co-ordination, and a dreadful sense of balance, so watching this makes me feel extra clumsy and graceless! Off to try and stand on the Mr's shoulders now... It might kill one or both of us! xxxx

  10. Oh yes, no wonder you have found ballet so technically challenging, it's hard enough getting one's partner to stand still while you do pointe work on his head let alone tracking down a neighbour to spot you in case you fall!!! There's something freakishly compelling about flying like a swan using your legs as wings. Gaaa. That was incredible. I'm sure it's the water. They should bottle that.

  11. Ballet is beautiful. I learned it when I was really young (maybe 6 or so) but didn't get far.
I'll have to watch the video at home (I'm at work now hehe).
    hugs!!!

    1. This isn't like the ballet we did when we were in class. That's for sure.

  12. I love a bit of ballet even though I gave it up to go riding horses and I sussed out it would be too difficult for me when I was about 8. I do appreciate the skill though... mind you if we'd done ballet like this, I might have stuck at it!
    Happy Christmas.
    xx
