Gashlycrumbs

It's Tulle Time!!!!!!
striped tee ~ J Jill
white tulle over black tulle ~ made by me
leggings ~ who knows? who cares?
flip flops ~ guess what? Reefs!

Donchya just LOVE Tulle????
This time of year it is so important to add some tulle to your wardrobe for Halloween Costumes and Holiday Parties and Impromptu Tipsy Interpretations of the Nutcracker.
You just never know when you might need a some Tulle.

I had plans to do a little tutorial on how to make a tulle skirt.
A white one with and elastic waistband and a black one with a satin sash waistband.
But this tulle was being such a beatch that it turned into quite a tussle. A Total Tulle Tussle.
I kinda lost it. This was not the adorable DIY that I had planned.
So I scrapped the DIY. This type of thing happens more frequently than I'd like to admit.
I'll probably wear the black tulle over a skirt and the white tulle under. Maybe. Who knows.
Anyhoo....I decorated a Halloween Cake.
I am capable of making beautiful cakes. This is Not one of them.
mmmm....cake.
After my Tulle misadventure I Deserve Cake. Yes I Do.
And Since it's Halloween let me tell you about my deep abiding love for Edward Gorey.
I love him so much! I'm sad that he is gone because I just want MORE Edward St. John Gorey!
The Gashlycrumb Tinies is one of my favorites.
I actually bought this little book for my kids when they were younger.
I made certain that interspersed with Flopsy Bunnies and Madeline they had a healthy dose of Edward Gorey, Tim Burton and Lemony Snicket.
Hey, I'm just providing them with material for future therapy sessions.
You can see the whole book HERE

C is for CONNIE who ate too much cake

I'm off to crash the Halloween Party at Mis Papelicos' Share-in-Style

Cause of death: overdose of prohibited baked goods.
But what a way to go :0)
Love your cake and love your tulle skirts ... if only I knew how to make one ;0)

    1. I tried to follow a couple of tutorials on Youtube and they made it look so easy. Augh!!!

  2. Yes, have a little lie down, Connie, you've been working hard! Tulle skirts (black and white) and Halloween cake, you are a woman of many talents. And I don't know the Gashleycrumb Tinies, but I feel I should - I am already feeling an affinity with Zillah.
Connie, you look so lovely, and you make me laugh, which is a marvellous combination! It's always good to see you. xxxx

  3. Hahaha . . . that is my kind of kids book, Connie! I must get me a copy!

    Hmmm . . . cake . . .

I have a love/hate relationship with tulle - love the look, find the sewing of it pretty difficult. I've sewn more than my fair share of it though, just ask that Angel with Red Hair! She wore a very tulle-y wedding dress that I remember pushing through my sewing machine. :-)

Hope the sugar coma recedes soon. xx

    1. Yes! I don't know what made me think that this was going to be an easy project. Nice to know that I am not alone in the tulle love/hate camp.

  4. I tried to make a flower with tissue paper and tulle, which looked very easy in the tutorial but turned out not to be so easy in reality. Lovely to see you having fun and enjoying a lie down with some cake xx

  8. Tulle is the stuff of my nightmares-did some lace making thing with it years ago that nearly made me blind. Never again.
The cake looks swell-I like the cobweb design which is harder to perfect than it looks. I like how the cookbooks always tell you to "Just drag a knife across..." Sure, "Just." Yours looks perfect for the season.

Oh yes, I miss my yearly calender that coworkers would look at confused, wondering just what *was* in the basket of the One Eyed Lady From Newcastle. Perhaps he left a hidden trove of unpublished work that will be discovered.

  9. Your posts are always so fun to read.

    I must find this book!

I like the fact that you don't wait till Halloween to pig-out on sweets. Don't delay satisfaction.

I find tulle hard to cut let alone sew.

    bisous

  11. Bwa-ha-ha!! Make sure you sweep up those stray Gashlycrumbs from the floor. Who needs poison apples when we have Gashlycrumb Cake? But, wait, you are clearly the princess in tulle so I'm sure you have a prince on standby to revive you. And I do think your cake is a work of art. I laughed at your tulle sewing tale. When it comes to sewing tulle, duct tape has never let me down.

  12. You are so funny and I just love it! Thank you for bringing your bright sunlight my way and making me smile. And by the way, you look adorable in your tulle.

  16. Noooo! why is pretty tulle so difficult? I was going to make a tulle skirt, now I think I may avoid it for a while, I should dream of eating your yummy halloween cake and reading your amazing book (this book is awesome, I need it) I just need to learn to nap as pretty as you x x x

  19. Great, great, great!!!
Oh, would I like a piece of that cake, then fall asleep and dream of an Edward Gorey world!!!

  20. Oh marvellous, I'm glad it's tulle time! I thought it would never come! You look wonderful in your skirt, you remind me of that Marilyn Monroe photo where she is wearing one. If tulle is the same as netting, then I've sewn it, if it isn't I haven't. Hope I've cleared that up. I don't know this fellow Edward St John Gorey but it could be love at first sight. Your cake looks scrumptious, not surprised you ate too much! Xxx

    1. Yes. Tulle and netting are the same cursed things.

  21. This is all kinds of hilarious! Tulle I have never messed with but I agree with Tania there is something that reminds me of Marilyn in your picture! Go Connie! I'm a fan of Gorey because even though I look like rainbow bright I do have a dark side:). Cake! Did you really eat all of that? If so dang girl, that worth a twirl in that skirt!

  22. Adorable post, Connie! I like your idea of wearing the tulle skirts over or under other skirts .
Your cake looks really o.k...I wouldn't be able to prepare one that way! ( and that's probably why I never cook cakes )
It looks delightful! I am not surprised you have eaten too much!! :-)

  23. I can relate, Sistah! Sewing usually gets the better of me, but I'm sure you have more tricks up your sleeve than I do. Your cake is beautiful, and I'm sure it is a great honor to be the one who gets to eat the spider. Loved your post and the cautionary tale! (Or are you encouraging us to eat too much cake and lie around on our porches all afternoon with secret smiles on our faces and tulle rustling in the breeze?)

  26. What a great story teller you are, Connie. Not to mention a sewist and cake baker too. Such a treat. Is it the Gorey in you?

  27. I've never heard of Edward Gorey but now I'm off to search for the Gashley crumb gang. Poor Neville! I LOVE tulle, I've got a couple of petticoats, one black, one sort of sludge colour, that I love to swish about in. Adorable photo of you all toes and cake. I think you should become a children's writer.

    1. A sludge colored petticoat would be amazing. You know, I've often thought of writing children's books. It's just that everybody and his dog writes children's books. Do we really need another one?

I've asked Father Christmas for Edward Gorey's 'The Object Lesson' - -so now R is for Rosemary who is getting Rather Restless while waiting to Read it!
