I Need The Eggs

December 1 is Woody Allen's Birthday. He will be 78 years old.

I know that general feelings about Allen Konigsberg are mixed. But I love him. I Lurve Him! I really do. I dream about him frequently (What would Freud say?) I have groupie stalkered my way to Michael's Pub to see him play the clarinet with his jazz band. I am first in line when a new Woody Allen film comes out. I once saw him on the street in New York City and my heart started pounding so hard that I felt light-headed.
So in honor of his genius, here is a very abbreviated random slide show of just some of his many brilliant films. He makes a new film just about every year. Amazing!
This is actually a Quiz! See how many titles you can name based on the pictures. The answers are at the bottom. Good Luck!

  1. I love Woody Allen films too. I watch most of it except his early movies. But have seen Match Point and the subsequent movies after that. I even collect these films by buying the DVDs. I have seen Blue Jasmine in the theatre. I am waiting for the DVD release. I'm looking forward to the next film " Magic in the Moonlight. Wow, Colin Firth us the star. I wonder who the leading lady will be? Keep going Woody!

    1. Match Point was good wasn't it? I hope you've seen Annie Hall!

  2. I'm not a mad crazy Woody Allen fan, like some excitable people around here, but I loved Blue Jasmine. I think his best films are the ones he's not in! My favorites are Crimes and Misdemeanors, Match Point, and Manhattan Murder Mystery. But now I'd put Blue Jasmine at the top of that list.

And I'll say one good think about Vicky Cristina Barcelona - Javier Bardem (droooool!). Him I have dreamed about!

  4. I was really really bad at the quiz! I thought I'd get more than 1 *oh shame* I think it is so cool you went to see him play, I think you did well when you saw him in person too, I saw an actor in our chippy one time years ago (he was on TV) I turned around, and absolutely disgraced myself, I dropped my money, shoved my bum in his 'area' to pick it up and almost ran out of there - famous people make me act peculiar - you on the other hand were magnificent! you stayed upright! x x x

    1. A score of 1 is actually VERY good. It was a very hard quiz for serious Woody Allen nerds. And I've noticed your lovely bum. I'll bet the actor was delighted to have a close up look!

  5. I have to say I'm not much of a Woody Allen fan … not because I dislike him … just because I've never watched many of his movies. So as you can imagine I flunked your little quiz spectacularly. Now as for Colin Firth … mmm … I'm certainly quite partial to him ;0)

    1. Yeah....Woody Allen films are particularly New Yorkish in nature. Though our friend Colin Firth is an international beauty.

  9. Match Point, Midnight in Paris, Blue Jasmine ----all fabulous! He gets better with age. Great post, a reminder to 'revisit' his earlier work. Did not know about your stalker tendencies!

  10. How intriguing! A friend of mine hired a cinema for his 50th and had them play Hannah and her sisters for his guests. It was my first Woody Allen and I really enjoyed it (although I've seen Vicky Cristina Barcelona but didn't realise it was one of his). Thanks for sharing your passion, you've made me want to find out more. xxx p.s. I'm a Sag too!

  11. I'm a fan of Allen's work as well. I wish I had more time to watch movies! I would love to see his most recent, Blue Jasmine, but I guess I'll have to wait for it to come out on DVD.

    1. His sensibility is quite edgy. Not everybody's cup of tea.

  13. Got them all ... I'm embarrassed. Too bad he's such a horror in his personal life. How much ethical wiggle room do we allow genius, anyway? Apparently more to him than many. I'm as bad as anyone about it ... some of my favorite moments in film are his. His "New York Stories" segment is one of his most hysterical. It's an exception ... I like the films he's not in best these days. His persona has always been a bit creepy for me.
I've always been a Colin Firth fan (duh!) What's not to admire ... I particularly love it that he's so completely inaccessible. Makes hero worship easier and completely guilt free!

  14. Mad keen Woody fan here but I only got eight! Oh well, I'm not as familiar with his films from the past decade, I'm picking them off slowly:). My sister and I used to have Woody quizzes, which of course ended up in a ridiculous drinking game involving some terrible acting - heheee! xoxo

  17. Colin Firth as the geeky, neurotic man? That would be priceless. And then I'd like to watch that Tom Ford movie he's in, back to back. Freakeh. I am a big Woody Allen fan. I really liked Celebrity too, even though Mr. Allen is not in it, and Judy Davis's transformation into a TV gossip queen, mmmmarvelous. I would like some invisibility tea.
