Nicely Done

When I was a kid and probably when you were a kid, at the end of every doctor or dentist appointment we were usually given a lollipop for our good behavior.
Hmmm...I'm not sure how healthy it is to give sugar to a extremely active kid with cavities but I sure didn't complain much at the time.
In fact, I sometimes wonder how anyone born before the 1990's survived all the junk we were fed as children.
But lo and behold. Here we are.
Now as a grown-up, after a doctor or dentist appointment, we are rewarded with a Nice Hefty Bill ~ especially if we live in these here Good Old United States. Sigh...
These days I try to avoid sugar as much as possible because I am, after all, a real live Grown-up.
So since I have been a very brave girl throughout all of my scary doctor appointments. And since I am so amazing that I have actually started (finishing remains to be seen) making Holiday presents in the Summertime ~ one of the Upsides of Downtime~
I have decided to reward myself with a little Etsy shopping.
I deserve it, God Dammit.
I treated myself to this beautiful 1990's era gauze dress from BeigeVintage. It Is Enormous. And very breezy and comfortable. I just love it. And I could quite possible eat a lot of sugary things while wearing it....if I wanted to...but I won't...well, maybe I will...but I probably shouldn't...but I could...do I smell cookies?? Anyhoo...
Nicely Done, Me.
Meanwhile, my sidekick and interior design partner Pancake has started a pine cone collection. Every time we come home from the park he brings another pine cone which we have turned into a lovely organic coney centerpiece.
Nicely Done, Pancake.

How do you reward Yourself????

So happy to be back in the game.

  2. If only a good pinecone collection made me happy. Sigh. But Pancake would make me happy. And a new humongous vintage dress of awesomeness would make me happy. On yes! You look gorgeous in your dress, and by gums you deserve it!! You deserve another one. Well done on your bravery. I love the photo of you reclining on the Couch of Decadence.
My dentists, etc., never gave out sweets, which is why I'm so confused today.

  5. You look absolutely beautiful, sprawling like a queen on your couch. You bright, colorful dress is a stunning contrast to your neutral decor. And I agree, you deserve a little splurge. I do, too. I'm about to buy a book for my book club (since the wait at the library is taking too long). It's the little things that bring a smile! :-)

    1. Mostly I've been buying myself books, too. What are you reading these days???

    2. The book club is reading The Bell Jar - that's the one I just bought. Most of us had never read it. I'm also dipping into Loving Frank by Nancy Horan, about Frank Lloyd Wright's mistress.

  6. Yes we did survive didn't we and we will continue to, says she who still enjoys sugar in her cuppa!! Look at you knitting away on that glorious large couch, you look so tiny and child like - have a lollipop sweet girl. Good on you for treating yourself, we deserve treats in our grown up years.

  7. I'm confused...is this the first page of the new Anthropologie magazine for August? Sure looks like it.

Dr.'s appointments are the WORST...so you deserve whatever you like tenfold. Whatever joy you can take in life is worth it.

Pancake as usual is simply adorable.

    bisous

  9. Looking fabulous, darling! That dress is a stunner. Oh yes, I recall the lolly after the check up at the dentist; after having a filling in fact! Those were the days!

  10. Aw, I love your post. I always have a gentle tug on my heart after each one. Pancake is such a good decorator. Clever. I'm viewing the blog from my phone and at first glance, I thought you were knitting the dress you're wearing. Regardless, it's so cute. Very boho. It reminds me of the clothing Pier One Imports use to sell. Do you remember that? Very world traveler.

I treat myself to lots of time away from chaos. Good old quiet time....often in a store....like Anthropologie :)

  11. Lovely...knitting!
    Well done you :-)
You look so cool and colourful and relaxed.
How do I reward myself? If I have energy I go out and take photos. If I don't I lie in bed with a book or movie. Ahhh! Bliss. Xo Jazzy Jack

  12. You've been brave? I am a snivelling, whiny bitch at the doctor's! Though it has gotten better since I've taken your advice about cocktails after an appointment.

That dress is fabulous, and YOU KNIT??? I am a grand crocheter of fabulous scarves, which I design with the recipient in mind and - I must say - are enthusiastically received.

    You're my hero.

  13. Oh Connie, what a gorgeous colorful frock! And fun that Pancake is a collector, who knew? Best rewards are travel, books and maybe something sweet!

  14. Yay! You're back! And the first to link! YAY!!!!!!!!

Sugar is probably the only "bad" vice that I have. I'm keeping it.
My childhood dentist didn't believe in Novacane. I had a lot of cavities (and still do). He left me with an absolute terror of dentists. It doesn't help that they all want to "fix" my crooked snaggle teeth. Ugh.

Moving along, I'm wondering, as I look at you in repose on your couch, where are your Nubian slaves to fan you? Who peels your grapes? It looks like Pancake is too busy with the pinecone installation piece. xxox

  15. You look a picture of luxury no matter what's going on. That dress! How could it come from a place called BEIGE Vintage?! So Pancake picks up pinecones. hmmm. Much more aesthetically pleasing than our cats bringing home dead mice. yes.

    1. Yep. We used to have a cat that would bring home half dead and bleeding lizards. Sweet little kitties....

  18. That dress is gorgeous and well-deserved with all those scary appointments you've been dealing with. You look like you've stepped off the pages of a posh interiors magazine and Pancake deserves to be made into a Hallmark Xmas card! xxx

  19. I think that Pancake With Pinecone photo might just be the cutest pet pic on any blog, ever. Such a photogenic hound.
And look at you, getting all ahead with your Christmas knitting! Nicely done indeed. Of course you'll get it finished. And that dress is so wonderfully colourful, it's the perfect Well Done Me present, far better than a lollipop.
Now - I have a question. Are you really, really tiny, or is your sofa massive? Xxxx

  20. I am trying to avoid eating too much sugar too, so I agree with your idea to buy a dress instead!

  29. Nicely done Connie! Love the dress. Something tells me you will never indulge in enough surgery anything to fill out that dress.. I love the pattern and I can imagine they way it will feel on, so much movement ! Pancake has really added to your decor - :)
    Consider yourself lucky?
we used to have a pond in from of our suburban house, complete with ducks, and ducklings. sounds blissful, yes. sometimes.
Our pup, Lucy, would bring us gifts, ( little , em, stinky poops from the ducks,)
she would drop them proudly at my feet as if giving me a gift. Since it was always at eh from door, i didn't mind too much. Papertowel in hand, I would take it back out. How to reprimand such a sweet dog!
    Love your home!

  31. Was browsing through your posts via Visible Monday and when I saw your vintage dress, I had to comment. I have the same exact dress that my sis bought for me at Goodwill. The tag inside says Bila, made in India. I just wore mine this Tues. , with a chambray shirt, suede booties and belt to pull in the fullness. Happy dress, happy wearing!!
