The Doctor Will See You Now

Catching up on the latest magazines.

I Spend A Lot of Time in Waiting Rooms.
If you don't know why, you can find out here.
It seems like someone is always asking me to lie down and/or take off my clothes.
And I have to pay THEM for the honor!

This is my brain on drugs.

So I can either schlump in the door wearing baggy sweats or I can try to look cute.
As the Mahvelous Fernando Lamas famously said,
"It is better to look good than to feel good."
So I try to look good. But looking good is not always comfortable.
I find that a short sleeved or sleeveless tunic with leggings just works best.
Easy On. Easy Off.
Short sleeves so they can get that blood pressure cuff on or take some blood..uh oh...Hold on. I feel light headed. Head between Knees..uhhh..Ok. I feel better. Wheh!
Where was I? Oh yeah.
And leggings so I can kick my legs up in the air when I go out for my post check-up cocktail. Wheeee...

Sewing Machine to the rescue.

This is a riff on a dress from the early 90's. I made scads of these for my pregnant self and my toddler daughter back in the day.

I simply take a boxy men's t-shirt. I used a Hanes Men's ComfortSoft tee from Target, three to a package. Gather up some fabric like I'm making a skirt. Then attach the skirt to the t-shirt.  Et Voila!
I added pockets because I MUST HAVE POCKETS!

The Necklace is a Healing Crystal from a hippie store. Do I believe in Crystals? Not really. But lots of people do. I think Crystals are very pretty. And basically at this point I will take all the help I can get!
Do you believe in the healing power of Crystals?

I am wearing Flip Flops. Flip Flops are ALMOST SHOES!!!
Do I look like an aging toddler? Maybe. Do I care? Nope.
Do I look a little pregnant here? Possibly. Good. It will give the other people in the waiting room something to ponder.
"Is that grey haired lady REALLY pregnant? My my...the miracles of Modern Science."

Cool Clear Water

I recently moved to the town of Carlsbad, California which is just north of San Diego.
In 1882, long before I ever moved here, a farmer named John Frazier was drilling a well on his land when he struck a deep aquifer of alkaline mineral water.
It was very similar to the therapeutic mineral water from Karlsbad, Bohemia so they decided to name it Carlsbad Mineral Water.
Until the 1930's many health conscious people from all around the world came to Carlsbad to "take the waters."  But during the Great Depression the whole thing to fell into disrepair. The depression had that effect on a lot of things.
Until the 1990's when a nice man named Ludvik Grigoras, who was born in Karlsbad now the Czech Republic, decided to declare Karlsbad and Carlsbad Sister Cities. He then worked to raise money to help restore the California spa. He even had his Czech sculptor friend create a bronze statue of John Frazier.
Yay for Ludvik Grigoras!!!!
If any of you have ever had a swig of tap water here in Southern California you would have to admit that it doesn't taste great. It comes all the way from Colorado and picks up some funky stuff along the journey so it tastes a bit "off" by the time it gets here.
Spring Water is the only way to go.
So you have to pay for it. Big deal. I think it's worth it.
If you are a Spring Water fiend like I am, I would like to introduce you to FindASpring.com
This web site shows you where to find Cool Clear Springs all over the World.
There might even be one close to you! Check it out.
So what does a Barefoot Aquarian wear to collect Spring Water?
A rayon dress with pictures of Cranes Flying over Water of course!
Made from this pattern.
I'm on a mission to make as many of my own clothes as possible.
Ha! We shall see.....

I leave you, hopefully well-hydrated, with some Vintage Cowboy Coolness*

Heading over to Patti's Visible Monday. See you there!

*I'm sorry if you can't see this on your ipad. I'm trying to figure that one out!
It's just a bunch of dapper old cowboys. You're not missing much.

Yarn Bombed

When I drove by this stop sign in my neighborhood I Jumped Right out of the Car.

Somebody had Yarn Bombed the Stop Sign!!

I knew this was going on all over the world but San Diego can be a bit..okay..a LOT conservative so I never expected to see it here. But here it is. And there are others here as well.

Sign poles by Crochet Grenade.
A fire hydrant. Again by the awesome Crochet Grenade.
 Arrrrgh. photo by Marc Fredrickson
I just knew that I HAD TO yarn bomb something. Now the po-po are on the hunt for the elusive Bryan who does the flower stop signs.  I have enough problems without having to add jail time to my resume so I decided to yarn bomb the tree in my own front yard.

I wanted to do Black and White Stripes like this because I am Yipes Stripes NUTS about Black and White Stripes which you already know if you have ever visited my Stripe-Me-Up Pinterest Board.

So I measured the tree and bought the yarn and.....
we moved to another house before I even got started. Augh! I haven't yarn bombed yet. Which is pretty typical for me. I have piles and piles of unfinished knitting projects: Sweaters that have GONE out of style and COME BACK into style and I still haven't finished them. Sweaters that my children outgrew before I ever finished knitting them. Sweaters with Shoulder Pads. Shoulder Pads!!! We're talking mid 80's. All unfinished. So I can add yarn bombing to my list of unfinished projects. Sigh..

I finally ended up using the yarn to make Pancake a little sweater. A Completed Project!
So I guess you could say that I Yarn Bombed the Dog!

PS
This week I'm attempting to link up with both Patti at Not Dead Yet Style and Jane at Flight Platform Living. Jane's prompt for this week's Shiny T Tuesday is: UNDENIABLY ME.
Here I am wearing an outfit that I have had FOREVER starting a project that I will probably NEVER FINISH. So Typically ME.

Hat bought in Venice Beach, California about 19 years ago.
Mexican blouse bought from a vendor on Olvera Street in Los Angeles at LEAST 30 years ago.
Denim cut offs from Banana Republic Outlet jeans about 6 or 7 years old.
Reefs flip flops about 5 years old.
Vintage Ray Ban sunglasses.
Here's a close up of the Mexican Blouse with its beautiful hand embroidery. See why I've kept it forever?

My Turf

Welcome to My New Home.

This lovely face will greet you at the door.
A much nicer face than mine if I answer the door first thing in the morning with major bed head and pillow creases all over my un-made-up face. Eek!

Besides, the former owners left a palm tree shaped Mezuzah on the door so she can watch over it. So cool. I've never had a Mezuzah before. Maybe it will keep the LDS folks away. Sorry LDS brothers and sisters. You are very friendly but I will never join your religion. Good Luck to you anyway :-)

There is a sweet little park behind my house so let's take a peek at it.

There's my little Pancake going for a walk in the park.

This is the balcony of the house across the street. Isn't it pretty?

And here I am with my binoculars, checking out the neighbors. You just Never Know who might be living next door.

white linen dress bought with my employee discount when I was a sales slave at Eileen Fisher
black tank and shorts from when I was a Pilates Instructor
bare feet. I'm not in shoes yet but at least I'm upright
And here I am showing you my bike shorts. I was so very kindly invited to join Shiny T Tuesday over at Flight Platform Living. The theme is "anything on anything" so I have chosen White on Black or....Dress on Shorts or....Spying on Neighbors.
Thank You Jane. I Love You. This is my first time ever doing this.

And She Was

How did I get here?
Well, our move to the new house was a success. It wasn't quite as stressful as I had imagined thanks to those little pink pills that the doctor gave me "for emergencies."
So what is the first thing that you should unpack when you move to a new place?
That's correct: The Wine Glasses!
Would you like a glass of white or red?
The chives found a new hangout.
They really like it here.
Gawd, I have a Lot of STUFF!!
Unpacked this cute little trio of bird doorstops.
Here's a pretty purple tree in my new neighborhood. It's not in my yard, unfortunately, but it is close to the take-out taco place. So I will get to visit it frequently...very frequently.
It is Agapanthus season. Lovely.
Here is my Teapot Collection.
It was all wrapped up in newspaper for years and years with only a few casualties.
Some of these things have not seen the light of day since 1998!
Here's a real antique.
Most kids get trophies for something impressive like swimming or soccer or tennis. I got one for dressing up and acting silly. Some things never change.
Isn't this a scary plant? I'm not sure what it is but it's in my backyard. I think it might be a Blackbird of Paradise.
Here is Pancake standing guard over the laundry. We don't have a washer or dryer hooked up yet so I'm doing laundry by hand like a good pioneer woman. It really does smell nice when you hang it outside though, doesn't it?
Here's the living room so far. I think it has lots of potential, don't you? I'm taking decorating tips from this blog mainly because I just love the name:
What a long day. Wheh!  Soaking my tired wonky feet to test out the new bathtub.
I'm going to sit up a little bit so you can check out my bib overalls. They are vintage just like me. I bought them in the 1980's at the Gap on Broadway in New York City. They have seen me through two pregnancies, many moves, several beer parties and numerous "fat days." I just Love them.
In fact this whole outfit is exactly something I wore in the 80's including the bandana.
(I know I look like a hillbilly but I don't play the banjo. It belongs to my son.)
Isn't this bandana cute? London, Paris, New York, Tokyo and Rome! Hmmm... I can't remember where I got it. That's what happens when you get old. You forget stuff.
Did you know that overalls are trending? It's true! Check it out HERE.
See? If you keep things long enough....
This is probably what I was listening to when I first wore these overalls.
~~~~~~~
Thank you so much for coming along on the tour of my new house!
Please Stop by Again SOON!!
